I hate it when:
- both the power (electricity) AND water is off at the same time. Well, or when the internet AND the heat is off at the same time. Well, or any combination of the aforementioned utilities. Amazing how we can be affected by something as simple as whether the phone works or not.
- I am just about to sit down to dinner and someone knocks on the door. I guess it's not so much the fact that someone showed up, it's more that fact that after living here for almost 9 years, I haven't learned to cook extra KNOWING someone is going to!
- I run out of coffee!
- my dog gets pregnant after we've spent hours putting up barbed wire and putting bricks and boards under the fence to keep "suitors" OUT.
- sewage gets pumped INTO my house by morons who don't know how plumbing pipes work.
- the water gets turned off at midnight just when I can't sleep and need a hot soak in the tub.
- the pharmacy doesn't have eyedrops for my kid who gets pink eye.
- the orphanages don't give the babies enough to eat, and hot tea in their bottles.
- they don't display winter coats and boots until it's already -20 C- too cold to shop comfortably, of course.
- my neighbor wants to borrow money because the road police have taken his documents for drunk driving.
Shall I stop for now? Next time, I'll do a post all about what I really love here. It's not all that bad; really!
Until Next Time,
Your SteppeSister

And when the water does get turned off, it takes three days to get it back (at least that's what happened to us in IJ). I recall nearly weeping with joy the first time I took a HOT shower when I returned to the US.
