Of course the first thing that has to happen is to set up a nice little spot to call home for 2 nights. They do pretty well with The Water Guy in making a cozy place to hunker down and relax. Of course, there's adventure to be had as well...

No camping trip is complete without a campfire! They even shared the last few marshmallows from the last bag!

The highlight of the trip was finding turtles the next morning. Don't let their innocent appearance fool you! They make a mighty mean urine.

The Water Guy does a pretty good job at hunting down the prettier, artsy fartsy shots. This is one that I particularly liked.

Venturing further away from camp, the trio came upon this MASSIVE eagle's nest. But this was no ordinary abandoned nest! This one had 3 baby chicks peeping for their parents, who were circling high above keeping a watchful eye on their little ones. Like good stewards, they quickly left, so as not to disturb the scene and spook Mom and Dad. I wish this photo gave perspective, but they say this nest was about 7 feet in diameter!

NariLoo was intrigued by this little guy. He was "very colorful" she informs me, and she "played with him" for a long time.

And so another annual spring trip to the Steppe has come and gone, this one being especially sentimental as it's the last one. We will in some ways miss the stark beauty that nature offers on the wide open spaces.
