More Than I Ever Thought I Would!

I can’t believe it!! I actually finished Week 3’s run sequences 5 times, and today, tried something new. When I finished my run a couple days ago, I was telling myself there was no way I could make the jump to Week 4’s runs because it literally doubles the time you spend “running”. But today, I was feeling rather good, and dare I say cocky, when it came to the 2nd 3 minute run. So, on a whim, I pulled a pirate move and tacked on an extra 2 WHOLE MINUTES to it. So, instead of the prescribed 5 minute warm up, jog 90 seconds, walk 90 second, jog 3 minutes, walk 3 minutes, then repeat, I jogged 5 minutes on the 2nd 3 minute slot!! That’s the longest I’ve run since I was in like 5th grade.

So, now instead of facing Week 4 with terror and angst, I am only facing it with fear and trepidation. Honestly, I don’t know if I will be able to finish the Week 4’s workout, but have gone from, “I’m definitely NOT ready”, to “Okay, I’ll give it my best shot.”

I’m still not ready to put any time limits on anything. I’m convinced our bodies “know” when they are ready to advance and move up to the next challenge. It may take 4 goes at it, or it might take 3 weeks at it. Whichever the case, I’m feeling really good about the progression so far. It’s good to look back one month ago, and remember I used to think running for 90 seconds was HARD.

Meanwhile I’m looking into finding my first 5K run. By August, I should be ready for something like that. The one I have my eye on hasn’t put any details up yet, but as soon as they do, I’ll let you know where and when. Meanwhile, a nice, long soak in a hot bath is in order!
