Today was a “run day”. Believe it or not (I NEVER, EVER in a million years thought I’d ever hear myself say this) I was not dreading it like I was, say, 2 weeks ago. I cannot say however, that I’m to a point where I look forward to dragging my sorry bum out the door to go “running” – I’ve been told that too will come, but takes time.
So, how’d it go, you’re asking. I ran the Week 2 sequence again today for the 5th time. Remember each “Week” is supposed to be run 3 times, and then you are supposed to move up to the next harder level. Well, that is if you are Superman or Mr. Incredible. I am not because 1) I am the wrong gender, and 2) I have more belly flab than they do, and 3) I’m sure their lungs do not spontaneously combust halfway through their workouts.
I joined a C25K discussion forum yesterday, and the unanimous advice was to move up whether you are comfortable with your week or not. If you are completing your runs without skipping any of the run sequences and aren’t quitting early, you should move up on time. I’m going to compromise. Although I’m not totally thinking that W2 is getting easier, I have completed EVERY run of the (6) 90 second runs it demands. It took me 5 times- almost 2 weeks. But someone asked the question, “How will you improve and move forward if you don’t push yourself?” They are absolutely right. I don’t think this jogging thing will ever be “easy”, but I can’t imagine going back to W1 now that I know I can jog longer and further. So, my compromise is to stick with the “5 or 6 Day Plan”; meaning I will do the Week’s Gig for 5 or 6 days and then move up. My original plan was to do them until they became easy. Clearly, that’s NOT ever going to happen. But then again, I never thought I’d say, “Oh God! Not again, today!”
